3 Things To Know Before You Adopt A Pomsky

Are you thinking about adopting a Pomsky? Here’s a few things you should know!

Whether you’re a seasoned dog owner or just a first timer, this list is for you! Pomsky’s are unlike any other dog breed out there and it’s important to do your homework before you jump head first into this commitment. Yes… I said commitment. That’s what you are signing up for with a Pomsky. It will be the best decision of your life, but just get ready because this isn’t your average fur friend!

1. High Energy

Pomsky’s are one of the most high energy dogs out there. Think bunny rabbit, but just a little bit bigger! I will never understand how our dog Pippy does it, but there is never a quiet moment with her. We typically walk our Pomsky 3-4 miles a day and that seems to never be enough. Our Pomsky spends most of her day roaming in our fenced in backyard and is always ready to play or walk when we get home from work.

This can be a blessing and curse. Your Pomsky is always going to be in a fun loving mood and ready to play. Some days that’s good! On days where you just aren’t feeling it or need a 20 minute power nap after work… yeah, those are the days that it feels like a curse.

2. Shed, Shed, Shed

The next thing you need to know about Pomskies is that they shed a little bit…okay, actually quite a bit. We have to consistently stay on top of brushing out our Pomsky in order to keep her coat looking good. If we don’t, our floors are absolutely covered in hair. We have learned we have to vacuum multiple times a week, and even in doing so, her hair fills up the vacuum each time. It is definitely manageable but feel that it is definitely something you should know! Pro-tip – get yourself a cordless vacuum! Your Pomsky pup will absolutely chew up the cord to any other vacuum you have. We have learned from personal experience!

3. Very Mischievous

The third and final thing you need to know is that Pomskies are very mischievous. If your Pomsky is not being entertained by you, she will most likely find herself being entertained by something she’s not supposed to be. They will entertain themselves by eating shoes, decorations, or even toilet paper! Yes, you read that right, toilet paper! Our personal Pomsky, Pippy, is quite athletic and can grab things off the countertop if they’re not strategically pushed to the center. We often times find our personal belongings scattered around our yard because she decided to bring them outside. Pomskies love to get themselves into trouble. Toys or treats are going to be a must have to keep them busy.
